Plastic castors

When choosing the materials that will be used in your castors, there are a few things you might want to consider. One of them is the surface material the plastic castor wheels will be rolling upon and what the surrounding temperature will be. 

For example, when choosing rubber as a base for the castors the wheels might wear down quicker and may even crack when it is exposed to quickly changing temperatures. This will make them unsuitable for containers in industrial cold rooms where produce is kept fresh.

When you want castors that are sturdy, resistant to extreme temperatures and hygienic, then plastic castors might be the solution you’re looking for. 

The benefits of using plastic castors

Castors made out of plastic have a few benefits in comparison to metal or rubber castors. These benefits are mainly due to the type of plastic that we use to produce these castors: polyamide.

Polyamide (PA) is a polymerised plastic which has a high electrical and heat resistance. It is also a relatively sturdy material that will not wear down quickly. This is optimal in situations where the floor surface isn’t completely smooth and will act abrasively on other materials. 

These plastic castors are also very hygienic and easily cleaned. For this reason, these are the main choice for transportation and storage in the food industry and the health sector. It is not an issue if the plastic gets wet during cleaning, whereas some metal castors would rust. 

Fixed and swivel castors made from plastic

Castors come in many forms and sizes. These are available in a range of diameters from 80 mm to 250 mm and combined with various types of medium-duty and heavy-duty forks, allow for load capacities between 150 kg and 4,400 kg. This plastic is known for its very low rolling resistance, even when carrying heavy loads. It is resistant to many chemicals and can be used in places with high hygiene requirements.
